About Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County
We make a difference…
Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) was founded for the sole purpose of enriching the lives of children and helping them achieve their full potential through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County (BBBSBC) has been serving Bucks County since 1964. Our rich history is built on a national heritage more than 100 years old.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County (BBBSBC) is a premier, professionally supported mentoring 501-C3 non-profit that serves vulnerable youth aged 7-15. Our programs consist of community based, site based, and our Options program. A central aspect of our mentoring model is that youth spend time with and receive support from an adult volunteer within the community, who want to see the next generation grow up to be empowered, responsible adults.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County makes a big difference in the lives of children. We do this by matching screened and background checked adult volunteers (Bigs) with children (Littles) based on shared interests, backgrounds, goals, and other factors, and watch the mentoring magic happen before us as our Bigs help their Littles grow emotionally, socially and academically every day through their Match. We have a minimum 15 month requirement of commitment to ensure that the youth in our programs have the security and consistency they can rely on, and excel from. We have seen Matches from their foundation, to graduation at 18, and beyond as Matches often become lifelong friends.
Each time BBBSBC pairs a child with a role model, we start something incredible. This one-to-one relationship is built on safety, security and trust. Friendships blossom and futures are positively impacted for both the Big and the Little.
We are proud believers in the power of positive relationships, and the numbers follow suit. Thanks to the first ever nationwide impact study, our premier mentoring programs have the facts to prove it. Of Littles matched in our program:
- 92% Improved their self-confidence
- 82% Improved relationships with family and peers
- 86% Are less likely to use illegal drugs
- 86% Improved their outlook on the future
